Astounding Medical Practitioner

So , the O Levels are (mostly) done and I have nothing to hinder me from watching my Korean dramas! Good Doctor , Babyfaced Beauty and Tale of Two Sisters  (I'm done with that drama , it now bores me to death) and possibly much more. Let's just hope KBS will take pity on me and let me catch up with my most favourite drama before releasing a new one. I mean , I didn't get to complete You Are The Best , Lee Soon Shin thanks to the Os.

But less of the other dramas and more of the main focus of this blog post ; Good Doctor.

Well, this drama has Joo Won , the guy that stars in Bridal Mask so Good Doctor has got to be good. Instead of playing as the Korean Zorro of the Korean-Japan Occupation , he plays an autistic savant striving to be a pediatric surgeon. A rather skilled surgeon who outshines his fellow resident surgeons because... he's the main character. His love interest is played by Moon Chae Won ( I think ) and this time , the tables have turned as the girl tries to urge the guy on the relationship instead of the whole boy-leads-girl shebang every single drama tries to provide. Their relationship is quirky to say the least but we all know that I'm rooting for the male nurse and head nurse to hook up ( That relationship is much much more fun to observe than the main one , trust me ).

There's a couple of tiny events that makes you wanna punch the TV , like how the head doctors are sabotaging Joo Won's clean record by getting him into trouble , all the windows of opportunities to get his love interest that he does not take , and all the intricate medical term almost 80% of the audience can't understand and comprehend. Despite being a good drama , it has its flaw like how it's way too scientific in the surgery scenes which kinda ruins the mood for it can confuse the audience and way too primitive in the off-surgery scenes that you predict what's gonna happen. Too predictable at most times and foreshadowing is not implemented well. Another thing is that there could be too much budding relationships at a single time. The main couple , the nurse couple , the doctor-patient's sister couple and the head-professor-board member couple. Too many to keep track and when the show switches from one couple to another , it gets rather confusing. Just keep the main couple and the nurse on. I don't really care whether or not the patient's sister will approve of a doctor.

Flaws aside , let's talk about how good the drama is. The story line is fresh , considering that medical dramas are rarely made hence , it's a new plot in this genre. It's finally not a rich-guy , poor-girl kind of a plot but a REAL plot focusing on the medicine part of the whole show. Surgery , complex incomprehensible medical terms .. make the drama feel like it's really a medical one. Joo Won really plays the character well, although he may be over exaggerating sometimes. Thankfully , the show did not go for the gruesome display of the surgery scenes but opted for a more subtle way of putting the surgery part in the show.

In conclusion , Good Doctor is pretty good~
